About Us

We are Todd Stelzer and Ann Stelzer. We own and operate Whisky River Gun Dogs from Cadott, WI, just 90 minutes from the Twin Cities. Whisky River Gundogs is a family focused business that offers a fun and welcoming atmosphere for everyone. We train all dogs for obedience but specializes in training flushing and retrieving dogs for upland hunting, hunt tests and AKC field trials. Whisky River Gundogs also welps 2-4 litters of Springer Spaniel puppies a year that are field trial quality. We breed for trainability, where the dog turns it on in the field and off in the house. 

Todd has been training dogs for over 25 years and competing in AKC field trials for over 20 years. He has titled numerous dogs in AKC events, including:

• 2005 AKC National High Point Springer Spaniel Puppy, Midwest High Point Amateur and Midwest High Point Open Springer Spaniel.

•  3rd place 2020 National Open

• 2nd place 2022 National Open,

•  2022 Midwest High Point Open dog (Maverick)

• 2022 Hogan Award winner for National High Point Handler 

• 2023 National High Point Open Dog ( Maverick)

• 2023 Dan Langans award winner (Maverick)

• 2023 Midwest High Point dog

• 2023 Hogan Award winner for National High Point Handler 

 

We believe each dogs training is unique based on the dogs intelligence and natural ability. We use positive reinforcement, which results in a happy dog that loves to train and hunt.
